metaio has launched a new version 2.5 of its augmented reality browser – junaio. junaio 2.5 allows indoor navigation, image recognition, object tracking, attaching correctly scaled, interactive 3D displays onto objects. The new release also comes wrapped into a much improved graphical user interface, easier channel navigation and pinpoint geographic filtering.
A recent example where image recognition and the junaio "glue" has been used by a sponsor is the GSM Association`s ad campaign for the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February of 2011 placed in key publications like TIME Magazine, Fortune, WSJ, The International Herald Tribune, Telecom2.0, Vanilla Plus, Wireless Week and others. When viewed through junaio (see image) the ad will trigger a 3D App Planet circled by satellites, which can be clicked to display further information about the conference`s scope and themes. It has also been used as part of print magazine campaigns by amNewYork and Connecticut Magazines.
The new junaio home screen offers a choice between location-based and object-based functionality, allows memorising his favourite channels, reviewing his personal channel history, displaying a simple user tutorial or browsing "Featured Picks" for the area where he happens to be. All interfaces have been redesigned for intuitive handling and ease of use, the search function allows keyword search by channel content as well as channel name and the view screens have been simplified using unobtrusive buttons and icons in order to allow almost unrestricted content viewing.
