Unlock Application for OTB iPhone with Bootloader 4.6
Unlock Application for OTB iPhone with Bootloader 4.6. If you're running an older iPhone with the Bootloader v3.9 (updated to the jailbroken v1.1.2 or v1.1.3 firmware, of course), then you've already got a simple software unlock solution in anySIM 1.3 (in the last post)- this unlock method doesn't apply to you (just go here and unlock your iPhone with anySIM 1.3). However, if you've recently bought your iPhone and it came OTB (out of the box) with the v1.1.2 or v1.1.3 firmware, then you're SOL. Or, rather, you were SOL.

The kid-genius GeoHot who made the initial iPhone unlocking breakthroughs that earned him a couple new iPhones and a new sports-car. George Hotz has made another breakthrough in iPhone unlocking. Newer iPhones running the v4.6 Bootloader can now be unlocked!

What's all the hubub about? Isn't this just another unlocking method for the iPhone? Well, yes, and no. It's another unlocking solution, sure, but the iPhone hacking community has been stumped as to how to unlock iPhones with the newer v4.6 Bootloader. GeoHot, has just announced that he has found an iPhone exploit that allows newer iPhones to get their non-sanctioned-carrier-groove on.

ModMyiPhone has packaged the unlock solution into an easier-to-digest Installer.app application. The process requires that you downgrade your OTB v1.1.2/v1.1.3 iPhone to the v1.1.1 firmware, jailbreak it, install the unlock package, install OktoPrep and upgrade to the jailbroken v1.1.2 firmware, then use the iPhone Dev Team's method to update to v1.1.3.

If all that sounds too much for you to handle, then you might want to stay away from this. But, if you're at all interested in unlocking your iPhone, then you probably already knew what you were in for.

Note: Don't run on iPhones with the older v3.9 Bootloader (BL). Don't run from v1.1.2/v1.1.3 firmare - you must downgrade to v1.1.1 first!
