Japan : No 2G phones was sold in Jan 2008. Japan comes out and says that for the first time in history they've sold absolutely 0 2nd generation devices. Manufacturers sent 4.08 million cellphones to Japanese stores in January, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said.

"For the first time, the number of second-generation models was zero," it said.

This is amazing while operators in Europe and America are struggling to get customers to switch over to 3G devices to make better use of the infrastructure.
