iPhone 2.0 Firmware to include Third-party Handwriting Recognition Software. We already heard this HWPen - Handwriting Recognition Application for iPhone before, And now there's a new report, the HWPen application that was developed by Hanwang.com.cn has been acquired by Apple for use in the next major firmware release for the iPhone (iPhone 2.0 firmware).
Hanwang claims that Apple has bought his software for recognizing handwritten input on the iPhone.
It seems that Apple has chosen to acquire the recognition code rather than develop the software in-house - as previous iPhone 2.0 screenshots led us to believe (iPhone 2.0 beta includes Chinese Handwriting Recogniton).
Unfortunately, Apple has reportedly stripped English character input from the tool, sieving for only Chinese character recognition for iPhone OS 2.0. Yeah, we'll have to wait for iPhone 2.0 Firmware to go live before we can confirm whether or not Apple has integrated HWPen into the iPhone. Btw, HWPen is still available as a third-party application for jailbroken iPhones. You can grab it for free (Step by Step to do it here).
