SEVEN's Ping services to “push enable” messaging, social networking andmobile applications

SEVEN has announced the general availability of Ping, a set of packaged services for mobile operators and device manufacturers to “push enable” messaging, social networking and mobile applications on superphones, smartphones and mass-market devices. Ping is powered by System SEVEN, the industry’s leading mobile push platform already deployed with great success on hundreds of device models and proven to reliably scale to millions of users.

SEVEN has taken a mobile cloud computing approach to Ping. This allows the company to efficiently provide push applications such as email, instant messaging, social networking, and any application that needs to be connected to or exchange data with the cloud, to mass market devices, including lower-end feature phones, smartphones and next-generation super-phones. With Ping, SEVEN is opening its platform to partners and customers enabling them to take full advantage of the SEVEN push and synchronization technology. The SEVEN platform and Ping bring significant efficiencies in wireless data synchronization: savings in precious battery life; reduction of the cost of service delivery; superior user experience; and optimization of data traffic on the network, which in some instances represent the majority of an operator’s traffic.

With the SEVEN platform and Ping services, any device and any application on the device can now benefit from robust push and synchronization mechanisms that are critical to avoiding the overhead of directly and constantly polling multiple data sources from the handset, and are a must to preserve the device’s battery life. The support for push notifications and background synchronization are relevant to all aspects of a mobile device from messaging, social networking and contacts, to the calendar, camera, location, caller ID, media player, and more.

Ping 1.0 is already in use by SEVEN and several of its partners. SEVEN is continuing to expand the breadth of the product offering over the coming months. SEVEN is conducting demos of Ping-powered mobile applications at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in Stand AV31 on a variety of manufacturers’ devices. Ping has been shortlisted by GSMA for the Best Mobile Service Delivery Platform award, which will be announced during the Mobile World Congress.
