U.S. Cellular has released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware update for HTC Merge. This is an optional software update provided by HTC to upgrade your HTC Merge from Android version 2.2 to Android version 2.3.4. The update improves power management, enhanced HTC Sense UI, new Flashlight application for camera LED, and support for 802.11n Wi-Fi connections for faster downloads.
You'll need HTC Sync on your PC to complete the firmware upgrade. According to the procedure which is detailed in PDF, Mac users can visit their nearest U.S. Cellular retail location with a Repair Center to complete the upgrade. As always, if you do install, be sure to backup your HTC Merge and take all necessary precautions before you start.
