Sonim Technologies has announced the award of two contracts through the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP), which is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Through BTOP, funding is awarded to eligible entities to develop and expand broadband services to rural and underserved areas and improve access to broadband by public safety agencies.
One of the leading OEMs in public safety broadband deployments, Sonim was chosen to provide FirstNet Band 14 enabled devices, accessories and applications to public safety organizations statewide in New Jersey and New Mexico.

Sonim is the first Tier One OEM offering the ability to deploy the FirstNet Band 14 frequency in its ultra-rugged mobile phones. The company said by utilizing Band 14, first responders have instant and uninterrupted access to others on the network and never have to worry about using commercial mobile networks that might be over-used during an emergency.
