EDO turns on its 5.6-inch WQHD flexible AMOLED panel this week. WQHD stands for a 2560x1440 resolution with 525 PPI. It leads AMOLED and flexible technologies in China.

Flexible AMOLED display is becoming the favorable choice by the top tier brands and is featured in the latest models of those household brands. This will trigger the adaptation surge by the industry moving forward. According to Displaybank, a market research firm, flexible AMOLED display shipment is estimated to be 25 million units this year, and the number will grow 32 fold up to 800 million units in 2020, which accounts for 13% of the total shipment in small size display.

Recent market data shows that Koreans have been pouring a great amount of resources and manpower in R&D and manufacturing in flexible display. Not to be outdone, Japanese with the support of a strong knowledge base and well developed up-stream supply chain in decades, follow in toe. With today's announcement, EDO, a 3rd force to be reckoned with from China, breaks the tie.
